Welcome to my little corner of the world!

I’m Fr. John Waldrep, M.M., a Maryknoll priest in Tanzania, East Africa.  More specifically, I’m on the coast, just on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam, the major city of Tanzania.  Dar is a lovely little big town on the shores of the Indian Ocean where we have two climates:  hot and hotter!

At this point in my life, I wear a couple of hats:  I’m the Regional Superior of the Maryknoll Fathers & Brothers in Africa.  I’m also the pastor of Buza Catholic Church, dedicated to the little flower.  Of my various and sundry ministerial activities, preaching is what I most enjoy and what I consider the most important thing I do.  I have two other passions:  cooking (and its corollary, eating!) and everything to do with language and languages.  Step through this looking glass, and you will find homilies, recipes and ramblings on faith, food, language, word plays, poetry (both the high- and lowbrow varieties) and anything else that tickles my fancy.  I’m not exactly the most compatible person with a computer, but hopefully, when I get the hang of this things there will be pictures of goings on in the parish.
